Founders Dr. Eric Johnson has been a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1985. Prior to that he was an instructor at the Harvard Medical School in Boston and a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Health. Dr. Johnson was a co-author on the batch record of the first lot of botulinum toxin approved by the FDA for injectable use in humans. Cited as one of the most experienced scientists in the world in the development and production of toxins, Eric has presented at numerous scientific meetings and has a long series of publications. His educational training includes a Masters Degree in Food Science from the University of California-Davis and a Sc.D. Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Mike Goodnough. Having graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994 with a Ph.D. in Food Microbiology, Dr. Goodnough wrote his doctorate thesis on the medical use of botulinum toxin. Dr. Goodnough has accumulated a great deal of toxin expertise over the last several years specializing in the research and development of improving the toxin's characteristics and discovering new applications. Mike has been a repeat speaker at the Interagency Botulinial Research Committee Conference. He also is a co-author on three issued patents and three patent applications. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., Mike obtained a M.S. in Food Microbiology and a B.S. in Bacteriology and Genetics.
Carl Malizio has worked as a Senior Research Specialist in the Department of Food Microbiology and Toxicology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1988. Concurrent with that position, Mr. Malizio also functioned as Laboratory Supervisor for Interactive Biologics Associates from 1993-96. In that position, Carl was responsible for the manufacture of botulinum toxins under cGMP's for medical use in humans. Product made in his laboratory passed Phase I and II clinical trials, and although it is impossible to verify, it is likely that Mr. Malizio has been involved with the largest number of successfully manufactured batches of GMP grade botulinum toxin ever made. Carl received a B.S. with honors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Bacteriology in 1988. Terry Sivesind brings his background in business development, marketing, and general management to the Company. His business experience complements the scientific background of the three founders. Mr. Sivesind has been involved with several successful biotechnology companies at the earliest stages of their existence, including: Promega, PanVera and Mirus Corporations. He will work with the Company to develop a company infrastructure, establish appropriate business systems, and market toxin products to research customers.
